The Maryland Air National Guard’s 175th Wing will deliver a thrilling Close Air Support (CAS) demonstration featuring multiple A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, showcasing the aircraft’s legendary battlefield effectiveness. Better known as the “Warthog,” the A-10 was designed to dominate the low-altitude fight, providing critical support to ground troops in even the harshest conditions. With its short takeoff and landing capability, the A-10 can operate from austere airfields, bringing its devastating 30mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon to bear against enemy armor and fortifications. Firing nearly 4,000 rounds per minute, the Avenger gives the A-10 its nickname—the “Tank Killer.” During the demo, the four-ship formation will execute precision attack maneuvers, demonstrating the aircraft’s lethality, agility, and ability to deliver pinpoint firepower in direct support of forces on the ground. Prepare for an intense display of firepower and aerial dominance as the Warthog takes center stage!
